Wild Wild West Fun Fair
Wild Wild West Fun Fair is a cowboy fair organized in 10 September 2010 for students and staff at RMIT Vietnam Saigon South Campus. This end-of-semester event is also a part of the promotional campaign for RMIT annual student experience survey. The event include four hours of game, music, and food. The central piece of the event is an mechanical bull. Our event successfully increased the number of people doing the survey. The event itself attracts over 700 participants.
As the Event Planning Team leader, I got the opportunity to take part in all of my team's activities which includes planning and executing the decoration and the entertainment including 10 game-booths, 2 ponies and the mechanical bull. At the same time, we have to work with the school Property Service department to provide all teams with necessary facility (tables, chairs, cork-boards, etc.)
During the preparation for this event, I learn a lot about the actual execution of an event. A large part of those experience is related to dealing with the administration progress in organization such as our sponsor or RMIT. and make sure that those lengthy progresses do not affected our work. I also learn to work with suppliers and contractors who work in different field and have different style of working.
Compare to other events of the same size, Wild Wild West have a short preparation period. We have less than three months to find sponsors and organize this event. At the same time, we have to run a promotion campaign for the student experience survey and our event. Thus, we learn to work effectively under lots of pressure and plan ahead. Although we try our best to plan ahead, crisis such as supplier withdraw, short of cash flow, change of venue, lack of human resource, etc. often happen. I have learn to keep calm and dealing with these crisis from time to time.
Wild Wild West is an valuable learning and working experience for me. It is our 'thesis', a proof that I am ready to start working as an communicator. Below is the link to the online photo albums of our event.

This document goes back and exams the various charging methods that PR agency have used through out history. For an industry such as Public Relations where evaluation the effect is still an on going debate, this topic opens up a lot of other discussion.
The journey from the early commission model taken from advertising agency to the new trend of taking the effect of the work into account when billing is also a reflection of how Public Relations developed, separated itself from advertising, and become an independent industry. On another hand, this paper also shows some of the complex reality of a new industry in which rules and regulations are yet to be fully established.
